What are Medical Wire Assemblies?

A medical wire assembly is a group of cables or wires organized into a single unit in order to provide the functions of many cable operations to different ports in an organized manner that can be easily maintained or replaced. In regards to medical equipment, these wire assemblies help function as data transmitters, links to power sources, or function as communications mediums between equipment and processors.

Medical wire assemblies function as a singular unit of many cables or wires to connect equipment to power, computers, data processors, and other pieces of equipment. These wire assemblies are used in every piece of medical equipment from diagnostic instruments, patient monitoring and ultrasound probes to patient imaging devices and X-Ray machines.

Meridian medical wire assemblies are custom built to function correctly and accurately in the most important medical equipment and machinery because of the importance of their function. With so much at stake in the medical field, correctly operating equipment is crucial in order to accurately medically aid every patient. Proper functionality must be the top priority of every medical cable manufacturer and it is certainly that at Meridian Cable. We utilize UL-certified components in all our products because we know the difference that quality and dependability makes in medical wire assemblies.

What Makes Up Medical Wire Assemblies?

Every cable is typically going to be composed of the same three elements: conductor, filler, and some type of plastic sheathing. The individual metal strands at the center of most electronic cables is typically copper or sometimes an aluminum-lead alloy that acts as the conductor for the data, power, or communication. Surrounding the conductor is the filler. The filler maintains the uniformity of the cable shape and helps protect the conductor in the cross section of the cable. Lastly, the plastic that covers the outside of the cable consists of a thermoplastic protective coating in order to keep the conductors safe from heat and moisture.

The core of every wire is the all crucial conductor. Typically consisting of a coiled group of copper, the conductor can be made up of several thousand copper strands measuring less than 0.05 inches in diameter. The conductors are the heart of the functionality of every cable used to transmit any medical information. These minute strands of copper are coiled around one another and stretched the length of the cable to provide flexibility to the cable and allow it to bend and coil.

Surrounding the core conductors is the filler of the cable or the cladding. This material can vary by cable, but serves the same purpose of uniformity in the crossbody of the cable. This filler is designed to help pad the conductor of the cable from kinks, heat, moisture, and breaks. The filler within cables acts as an insulator for the conductor while also giving the cable a uniform shape in the crossbody.

The outer coating of any cable will consist of a protective plastic that encases the filler and the core conductors. This outer element is the crucial front line defence for protecting the cable and ensuring proper functionality. The plastic coating can be made from several different types of thermoplastics such as polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, or polyurethane. The plastic coating around the cable serves to protect the cable from elements that would hinder the proper conduction of the data that is being transmitted.

Medical Equipment That Utilize Medical Wire Assemblies

From the most complicated medical machines to the more simple patient monitoring equipment, there are a myriad of pieces of medical equipment that utilize medical cable assemblies. The necessity for quality medical wire assemblies on this variety of equipment cannot be understated. With medical wire assemblies being such a crucial component of medical equipment such as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), a patient heart monitor, or a defibrillator, it is absolutely vital that the medical wire assemblies be functioning correctly.

Other equipment that may utilize medical wire assemblies are:

  • Medical diagnostic equipment
  • Ultrasound wands
  • Medical imaging equipment
  • Patient monitoring equipment
  • Positron emission tomography (PET) scanner
  • Computed tomography (CT) scanner

With all of these pieces of medical equipment being crucial to medical treatment and diagnostics, the cable assemblies must be designed to the highest quality and crafted to the strictest of standards. Meridian Cable has spent years designing our medical wire assemblies to meet these high standards without compromise or question. Our priority is to manufacture superb quality cables that can be absolutely relied on.

Reusability and Sterilization Matter In the Medical Field

Keeping the medical facility clean and sterile is essential for the health of every patient, doctor,  and medical worker. An unsterilized environment can cause infection, disease, and is often a matter of life and death. As such, every piece of medical equipment must be sterile to meet this stringent standard.

Because the environment in which medical wire assemblies needs to remain sterile, the medical wire assemblies need to either be easily replaceable and disposable or they need to have the ability to be sterilized. This means that we design and craft our cable for medical use to endure the sterilization process to keep operating correctly and help medical equipment function.

Our team of engineers and designers have years of experience meticulously creating and designing medical wire assemblies to optimize functionality and efficiency. With many years in the cable industry, Meridian Cable possesses the skill and precision to design medical wire assemblies to meet medical standards and the rigorous quality requirements of medical equipment. Our medical wire assemblies provide not only functionality, but durability and flexibility to be adaptable to numerous situations and uses.

Precision and Reliability With Medical Wire Assemblies

As medical equipment must be operating correctly in order to best help treat patients, it is imperative that every component of the medical equipment be reliable and dependable. We design and engineer our medical wire assemblies with ultra precision to work with the most sensitive of medical equipment. Meridian Cable has been manufacturing cables for decades to create high-quality cables, medical wire assemblies, wiring harnesses and more. We craft our cables to the highest standard to be reliable when it is absolutely necessary for them to operate correctly.

Because medical equipment is often ultra-sensitive, the medical wire assemblies they utilize must be crafted with precision. Meridian Cable has engineered our medical wire assemblies to meet the most precise and stringent standards. This precision is a crucial element of our proven design, testing and manufacturing process.

Why Durability, Flexibility, and Adaptability Is So Important

While we build our medical wire assemblies to the highest quality standards, we also apply rigorous testing and quality checks to every cable we create. Our cables and medical wire assemblies are designed with the flexibility to endure the frequent movement and strain that comes with operating with medical equipment. We have crafted our wires to be durable, flexible, and to last.

Because the medical sector requires moving quickly and adapting to rapidly evolving situations, it is important to have medical wire assemblies that can meet and match that adaptability. We craft our medical wire assemblies to rise to the occasion of the fast-paced and stressful environment within medicine. Our team of cable engineers and designers have meticulously designed our cables for reliability, durability, adaptability, and exact precision to meet the highest medical standards.
